Bimatoprost is a synthetic analogue of prostaglandin pGF2a. It regulates the growth phase of the hair follicles, stimulates and prolongs the anagen phase resolved in hair growth, including lengthening, thickening and darkening. A dysregulation in the prostaglandin pathway can lead to hypotrichosis of the eyelashes and eyebrows.
